EMPLOYMENT & EDUCATION SUPPORT WORKER - PERMANENT CONTRACT
Cork Simon Community?s Education, Training and Employment Service is
an essential part of Cork Simon?s holistic supports package for
people who are homeless and exiting homelessness in Cork City. We work
with people who have been though major life challenges and trauma,
supporting them to overcome barriers to education, work and exclusion.
The service provides a sustainable route out of homelessness and
empowers people to return to work and live in local communities.
Support, which is trauma informed, is delivered using an empowerment
model and a strength?s-based approach. People are offered
individually tailored supports to access or re-enter education and
training, take up personal development opportunities and build
independent living skills. The service offers job coaching supports,
job search and interview skills. People are supported to access work
experience and employment opportunities through a network of employers
in Cork City and County. Once on placement or in employment, the
person and the employers are supported during the settling-in period.
These suite of supports aim to help people build self-confidence and
resilience, and overcome complex life challenges, equipping people to
move out of homelessness and maintain permanent and sustainable
independent or supported housing.

CORK SIMON COMMUNITY IS CURRENTLY SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR THE
POSITION OF EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT WORKER
_PURPOSE OF THE POST:_ To provide bespoke one-to-one and group-based
supports to service users in homeless services seeking (re)entry into
the labor market or further education. Develop and strengthen links
both internally and externally with education/training providers and
assist with coordination of same. Build links with employers. Support
service users while on work placement and in employment during their
initial transition. Provide support to employers in relation to work
placements and employment.
_KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:_
* Working on a strengths-based, trauma informed and empowerment
approach, carry out a needs assessment with each referral/service
user/tenant around employment and education potential, needs,
interests and challenges
* Work with service users (one-to-one basis or in small groups) to
identify suitable training, education, employment and career
development opportunities
* Develop and maintain a network of contacts among employers around
Cork City and County who will sign up to Cork Simon Community?s Step
to Work Programme.
* Identify a pool of accessible and appropriate employment
opportunities
* Update in-house CRM system to log contact and work done with
service users/tenants
* Generate and maintain up to date records of employers, files,
expenditure, receipts etc.
* Liaise with support staff across Cork Simon Community and other
homelessness service providers to promote and raise awareness of
Education, Training and Employment services and encourage service
users to attend training and engage in work related activities,
placements etc.
_THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POST WILL:_
* Have minimum of 2 years? experience of working in education or
social care
* Have experience of supporting individuals in accessing training,
education, and or employment
* Have experience of networking/developing contacts with employers
to identify job opportunities
* Have relevant 3rd level qualification
* Have strong interpersonal, relationship building and communication
skills
* Have strong administrative and organisational skills
* Have strong knowledge about Cork Simon and homelessness
